Decolonizing Your Mindset: Small Steps to Engage with Truth and Reconciliation | Joel Calabrese
Join us for Decadent Care, November 8-9 in Winnipeg, MB:
In this conversation host, Tim Smith (Academy Director with CareImpact) has a conversation with Joel Calabrese.
Joel Calabrese completed a Masters Degree and plans to work on a PhD with the NAIITS Indigenous Learning Circle. Joel has worked in contract archaeology since 1993 and recently started a research and consulting business. Joel shares a bit about his experience as a missionary and how his faith in Jesus continues to guide his life.
The conversation centres around a discussion of connections, particularly with land and treaty, that are vital and important. Joel also shares what change or movement he would like to see towards the Truth and Reconciliation Commission calls to action.
The conversation delves into the concept of context, the importance of understanding it when examining artifacts and history, and how it applies to discipleship and understanding the greater context of the world Christian experience and movement. The conversation concludes by exploring ways (even small simple steps) to engage with communities in a way that promotes change and understanding, including learning the language, even a few words.
