Description
In the quiet, slightly confusing week between Christmas and the new year, Johan brings a fresh “One Good Thing” — a story of post-holiday neighbourly care from Ontario that continues long after the decorations come down. It’s warm, funny, and surprisingly grounding for a week when no one knows what day it is.
Why Listen Today?
Because this is the week where energy is low, leftovers are high, and encouragement goes a long way. One small story might be the nudge you need to start the year with intention.
- Shannon returns in January with the next full Neighbourly story

Transcript
Welcome to the weirdest week of the year. The stretch between Christmas
Speaker:and New Year's, where time has no meaning. Leftovers are
Speaker:our food group, and no one is entirely sure what day it is.
Speaker:If you're listening right now, good news is it is Wednesday.
Speaker:There's a community in Midland, Ontario that puts on a big
Speaker:Christmas dinner every year. But the best part happens
Speaker:after the big day, once the tables are clear.
Speaker:Volunteers keep dropping off meals to people who couldn't make it.
Speaker:They check in on seniors who spent the holidays alone. They
Speaker:connect folks with support so the post Christmas slump doesn't hit
Speaker:quite so hard. The party is over, but the
Speaker:care keeps going. This is the kind of kindness that actually matters
Speaker:in January, when the lights come down and the credit card bill
Speaker:goes up and everyone's back to pretending resolutions make
Speaker:sense. It's a very early church kind of care.
Speaker:Steady, not seasonal love that lingers
Speaker:even when the celebration is done. So as we step
Speaker:into a new year, think of one person who might be feeling
Speaker:the quiet more than the celebration. A quick text,
Speaker:a knock on the door, or an invite for coffee could be
Speaker:someone's lifeline this week. Shannon will be back soon with the next
Speaker:neighborly story, and we'll be sliding right back into our usual
Speaker:rhythm. I'm Johan Heinrichs, and this is the Neighborly
Speaker:Podcast. Because every story of care deserves to be seen
Speaker:and shared from all of us at Care Impact. Happy New Year.
Speaker:Sa.
